Had a little break from the blog as I’ve been working on a Creative Flow Course. It starts this Sunday 14th January at 6pm UK time on Zoom. If you’ve already broken your New Year’s Resolution or if you’re bored by the whole New Year, New Me cliches I’d love you to join.
The course runs for 40 days. One live, interactive Zoom call per week (on Sunday) plus homework three times a week on the in-between days. Bring a project you’re working on or just bring yourself if you want to recharge your creativity, rekindle your mojo and feel excited about life again. The cost is $250 US or £198 GBP. Message me for more details if you’re interested.
OK back to the Seven Deadlies! Today the demon is Lust… the sin that dares not speak its name!
For many years this was literally true. Early church leaders thought that if they avoided sex altogether, then the energy of sex would just go away. In fact, the opposite happened. It resurfaced in terrible ways via paedophilia and abuse. So yet again, we have another example of duality thinking… “If sex is bad, then no sex is good”.
In the world of Flow, the outcome is determined by the energy driving the desire, rather than the act itself.
Do the feelings of desire seek to control, manipulate or gain power over someone? Or do the feelings of desire seek to express love, fun, play, connection and intimacy?
A strange passion is moving in my head. My heart has become a bird which searches in the sky. Every part of me goes in different directions. Is it really so that the one I love is… Everywhere. Rumi
The church designed a clever strategy for controlling sexual energy – they indoctrinated everyone with guilt so they would control themselves. Unfortunately, this means that even today, people associate pleasure with shame.
In the world of Flow, this is a problem, because the energy centre in our pelvic region is the one that also governs our creativity. We can create a baby or we can create art. Imagine what could happen if just a fraction of this repressed creative energy was released into the world.
As far as energy is concerned, there are two types of sex.
1. Aligned sex, in which mind, heart and solar plexus are fully engaged. This is a sensual act that replenishes, nurtures and creates more love.
2. Unaligned sex, in which we disconnect from our heart. The solar plexus has sex and the mind has fantasies, but the heart (with its dreaded neediness) is completely bypassed. This is more of a stimulus (mind) and release (solar plexus) rather than a whole-body experience.
Fear of our repressed neediness is one of the main reasons we close our hearts. We associate our heart with purity and innocence and because we associate sex with the shadows of our baser instincts, we resist connecting our head, heart and solar plexus.
When the energy centres don’t line up, there’s less Flow, which means more Lust is needed for the sex to happen.
Just as the Church split sexual energy into good or bad (good for making babies, bad for pleasure) Business entrepreneurs split sexual energy into porn or romance (both good for making money). Porn practically keeps the Internet alive, and romance sells everything from lingerie to teddy bears, and of course chocolate.
Lusting after an orgasm is the physical representation of a mystical desire to dissolve into oneness. An orgasm is a fleeting glimpse into what it feels like to be out of our body and inside our body simultaneously.
This is a major “both/and” experience, rather than an “either/or” one. Sex is one of the few ways that very cerebral people can get out of their heads for a brief moment in time.
In Flow, without possessiveness, control, guilt, neediness or shame, Lust becomes lust for life.
